We don’t really know if copy is the right word for this, but people have other terms to use (not very nice – if you get the drift). During Rachel Zoe’s fashion show, Teen Vogue fashion news director Jane Keltner de Valle was struck. That can be a good thing, except that she was struck by the similarity between a vintage dress she styled for the magazine, and one of Zoe’s designs in the fashion show itself.
Of course designers are allowed and sometimes even expected to get ‘inspiration’ from other designs and eras. And in that statement, there’s nothing about coming out with the same exact design, which actually looks like it’s the same dress (or maybe it is, we’re not sure).
What does this say about the industry? There’s no creativity anymore? With Kate moss creating her Topshop lines by just effectively reproducing items that are already in her close. More frustrating is that no one seemed to mind that it was the case!
